️What is a Pressure Crossover?

A pressure crossover occurs when the “bottom” connection of a component has a different API 6A pressure rating than the “top” connection. For example, an operator may need to install a 10,000 PSI (10M) production tree onto a 5,000 PSI (5M) tubing head.

Why Transitions Matter:

  • Safety Isolation: The adapter must be rated for the highest potential pressure it will encounter, ensuring the lower-pressure side is never compromised.

  • Structural Integrity: Because high-pressure systems (10M+) use different bolting patterns and ring gaskets (like BX vs. R/RX), the adapter serves as the mechanical bridge between these two distinct engineering standards.


Engineering the “High-to-Low” Bridge

Machining an adapter for a 5,000 to 10,000 PSI transition requires a deep understanding of metallurgy and wall thickness. At our Edmonton facility, we ensure every transition meets rigorous standards:

1. Tapered Bore Design

To prevent fluid turbulence and internal erosion, CRC machines a tapered internal bore. This ensures a smooth transition for the flow as it moves between different diameters. Smooth internal surfaces are vital for maintaining the longevity of your Spool Adaptors and manifold blocks.

2. Flange Face Precision

A crossover often means switching gasket types. We precision-machine the API 6A ring grooves to ensure that a 5M R-type gasket on the bottom and a 10M BX-type gasket on the top both achieve a perfect metal-to-metal seal. These transitions are designed to mate seamlessly with our API-certified Companion Flanges.
